Down by the waterfront at MediaCity, you’ll find 30 large ‘boxes’, some taking the form of sheds and greenhouses. These are hosted by local restaurants: Grindsmith, The Alchemist, and Vertigo – and each is a specially created dining pod, with seating for two to six people. The Dockyard also has its own pod, plus an outside bar where you can relax in a deck chair. The plant-based eatery Vertigo will be joining in the fun from early August, and more restaurants are set to be announced in the coming weeks. The Box on the Docks project not only supports eateries but also the arts scene – these micro venues have been curated by local artists – from promising young students to established collectives. They feature light and sound installations, murals, graffiti and poetry. The scheme soft-launched in late July and opens its doors officially on Friday 31 July 2020.
