We’ve rounded up the best free things to do in Manchester this week, including a closing party for AIR Gallery’s current exhibition and a fundraising yard sale at Hope Mill Theatre.

Tales of the Underground | The Caving Crew | Mon 17 Aug | 7pm - 10pm

Intrigued by caving and always wondered what it’s like? Or maybe you’re an experienced caver looking to hear about other people’s experiences? Either way, Tales from the Underground is an amazing online storytelling night featuring several experienced cavers sharing their most exciting underground stories. This particular group are super welcoming and inclusive of all, so if caving is something you’re interested in, this is a great way to get involved locally even while social distancing.

Much Too Shy | AIR Gallery | Thu 20 Aug | 6pm - 9pm

AIR Gallery in Altrincham are hosting Much Too Shy, a closing party celebrating the end of a successful show featuring the four winners of last year’s AIR Open 2019. Expect the unconventional, with surreal depictions of the human form, jarring contrasts with the everyday, and a healthy dose of satirical good humour. Social distancing and safety measures will be in place, and there’ll be a pop-up bar too, making this a great evening out for a bit of local culture.

Freedom For The Children & Revolution Global Walk Manchester | Sat 22 Aug | 1pm - 6pm

This peaceful walk aims to bring awareness to child trafficking and exploitation, both in our own communities and around the world, organised by Freedom For The Children – an apolitical non-profit organisation. The walk will begin at Piccadilly Gardens and end at MediaCityUK, where a sit down meditation will be held with an overall view towards peacefully raising awareness and encouraging judiciary systems to provide representation and resources to victims of trafficking and exploitation.

Meet Language Partners Online | Sat 22 Aug | 6pm - 7pm

Learning a new language? Keen to get started with one? This event aims to facilitate multicultural professionals to connect and learn about each other’s native language and culture in a friendly and casual way. One of the best ways to learn a language is through conversation, so if you’re looking to brush up on your skills, or just dip your toe in and learn the basics, this could be the prefect opportunity to find someone to practice with.

Fundraising Yard Sale | Hope Mill Theatre | Sun 23 Aug | 11am - 4pm

Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre has been closed during lockdown, but they’ve been working hard behind the scenes to transform their space and get it in tip-top shape for reopening. They’re having a fundraising yard sale to help in their efforts and are selling on some of their furniture, costumes, props and barware – so you could pick up a piece of Hope Mill history all while supporting a great local theatre.
