As August wraps up, it feels like summer is starting to draw to a close. Luckily, there are still loads of great events going on in Manchester – indoors, outdoors and virtually. We’ve rounded up the best free things to do in Manchester this week, including a record fair and a screening of romance fantasy The Shape of Water.
As part of their Manchester Pride At Home series, the LGBT Foundation are hosting a drop-in virtual community cafe. Moderated by a member of the LGBT Foundation, this is a great way to meet new people from the comfort of your own home (and have a mini Pride celebration too!).
While there may have been no Manchester Pride on the streets this year, there have been loads of alternative online events going on all weekend. In the tradition of Manchester Pride, the weekend will finish a moment of reflection on Monday evening with the candlelit vigil. The vigil will be streamed online as well as being broadcast on BBC Radio Manchester and Gaydio.
If you’re interested in local flora and fauna, tune in to this virtual wildlife tour with enthusiastic expert Dave. He’ll talk you through local wildlife and foraging in Wigan and Leigh – and there’s no need to worry about the weather as you won’t even have to leave your sofa!
Above The Line film club continue with their impressive and eclectic selection of totally free, socially distanced screenings at the Pink Room in YES. This week, they’re showing 2018’s Best Picture winner The Shape of Water, directed by Guillermo del Toro. Above The Line requests that you only attend with members of your own household so that government guidelines can be adhered to.
Urmston Artisan Market are back for the first Saturday in September. There’ll be plenty of local arts and crafts vendors and stalls, so if you’re keen to support local traders, head down for a browse and see what amazing handmade items you can pick up.
