Thanks to Umbro Industries

Manchester Wire is a new initiative brought to you thanks to the support of Umbro Industries. Started in 2009, Umbro Industries was fuelled by a desire to connect with Manchester and the thriving creative scene within the city. Sportswear company Umbro has been based in the north west since 1924, but  wanted to reaffirm this connection to the region, so Umbro Industries was born. Inviting submissions from creative groups and individuals from across Greater Manchester, Umbro then arranged for some of the city’s most famous artistic names to pick their favourites and award grants of up to £10,000. Over two years, Umbro Industries saw over £75,000 donated to a wide range of ideas, including theatre shows, burgeoning record labels, poetry compilations, art installations and websites – all great ideas that just needed a kick start, which they received from Umbro.
