Combining aerial dance and visual theatre with excerpts from letters to each other in ‘an immersive multimedia performance’, Scarabeus Aerial Theatre explore the power of creativity in facilitating profound change with the epic yet intimate Emerging, playing across a two-night run at The Lowry on Fri 7 Oct and Sat 8 Oct.
Available to watch in-person or online via Lowry Digital, Emerging charts the relationship between a mother and her transgender son, as they navigate parallel journeys into unknown futures. Created in consultation with young gender-diverse and trans people alongside their parents and carers, Emerging blends heartrending choreography with extracts from correspondence between Artistic Director Daniela and her son, Naissa: “Please take me by the hand and guide me through the appearing and disappearing of you, because this is what I fear the most; to lose you my child.”
Co-commissioned by The Lowry and the London International Mime Festival, the performance lasts around an hour and features a BSL interpreted performance on Sat 8 Oct at 8pm.
