Launching on Sat 12 Nov, The Silk Museum’s Handmade Holidays comprises ‘an uplifting programme of music, making and giving ahead of Christmas’, with events including tree decoration workshops, sustainable gift-making lessons, preschool Christmas crafts and more.
With a focus on creating appealing, reusable and recyclable decorations and gifts, The Silk Museum hosts a range of workshops on festive ornaments, beginning at 10am on Sat 26 Nov with ceramicist Claire Gorton’s series on how to make lasting tree adornments, while Hilary Ogden’s captivating jewellery-making classes offer the perfect chance to create personal, unique presents on Sat 10 Dec.
Throughout the holiday season, the museum and adjacent Paradise Mill also offer a range of family activities in its traditionally decorated historic spaces, beginning with artist Hannah Wooll’s session on metal-embossed folk-inspired decorations, followed by simple, engaging Christmas craft lessons for ages 1-4 on Wed 23 Nov, Christmas card family workshops on Sat 3 Dec and a day of music and storytelling for preschoolers on Thu 15 Dec.
On Wed 7 Dec, the Norbury Handbell Ringers bring quintessential holiday cheer with their repertoire of classical, traditional, popular and festive music, while ladies’ choir The Caravanettes perform a variety of popular Christmas songs on Sat 10 Dec.
Director of the Silk Museum, Emma Anderson, says: “Christmas and the holiday season is about giving… we have a great festive programme that will be accessible for all ages and skills. Come along and try something new or simply enjoy our festive displays and exhibition and have a mince pie with us.”
