A brand new family festival of science and tech is coming to Bruntwood SciTech’s Alderley Park this Saturday.

SciTech Extravaganza has been designed to inspire young minds, spark curiosity and encourage engagement with STEM-related learning.

Families are invited to enjoy a day filled with fun science-themed activities and shows and new skill-building opportunities within Alderley Park’s 150,000 sqft tech and innovation hub, Glasshouse.

Activity highlights of the day include a programme of interactive shows shining a spotlight on ‘Super Cells in collaboration with the Royal Institution (Ri). Each interactive show, delivered by Ri presenters, will dive deep into the science of cells showing how bacteria and viruses “invade our bodies” and what we can do to fight back.

The shows will be delivered in a fun and engaging style; with three shows taking place across the day for three different age categories: 4-7, 7-11, and 11-14 years old.

Balloon scientist, and Britain’s Got Talent star – David Crofts, will be hosting workshops, teaching children all about elasticity, aerodynamics, pressure, static electricity and many other topics, all whilst creating larger-than-life balloon art for attendees to admire. Smaller balloon masterpieces will be available for children to take home.

For those looking to enhance their young tech skills, crumble coding sessions and simple introductions to computing will be hosted by Cheshire based STEM workshop creators, Skill Supply.

There will also be face painting, DJs, food and drink stalls and more taking place throughout the day.

Dr Kath Mackay, Chief Scientific Officer for Bruntwood SciTech said: “We’re so excited to be hosting SciTech Extravaganza at Alderley Park this September. As we celebrate what Bruntwood SciTech has achieved in supporting innovation and scientific discoveries since acquiring Alderley Park 10 years ago, we wanted to curate an event that inspires and nurtures the next generation of scientists, coders, mathematicians and engineers. We’re really looking forward to opening up Glasshouse to the community and welcoming families to the Park for an unforgettable day.”
