Perfect for families over October half-term and beyond, The Lowry’s brand-new exhibition Queens honours the great heroines of history with a free programme of events, music, dance and activities this autumn.

Open until Sun 3 Nov, Queens features a vast array of family-friendly drop-in sessions every Tuesday through Sunday, including a cosy book nook stocked with absorbing children’s literature, board games and puzzles, as well as a fun-filled daily Silent Disco for little ravers of all ages. Over at The Lookout, kids can take part in a variety of self-led activities like crafting, colouring and more.

Inspired by the smash-hit Tudor satire Six, a dazzling pop-soundtracked reimagination of Henry VIII’s wives and their defiant personal stories, the exhibition features several original costumes from the show alongside fan-made art and new commissions from artists and photographers, including viral hometown icon The Mancorialist.

For families in need of a well-earned refuel, the Lowry’s Pier 8 Restaurant transforms into the Queen’s Head pub for the duration of the programme, serving classic beef burgers, warming soups, cakes and an assortment of Six-themed cocktails. Elsewhere, the Queens Afternoon Tea offers a royal banquet selection of finger sandwiches, homemade scones and more in a spellbinding waterside setting.

Ideal for young budding dancers and grooving grown-ups, the Six Dance Party offers the opportunity to learn a medley of show-stopping routines with a professional dancer, available in bookable 45-minute sessions every day.
