This Christmas, HOME transports audiences to the festive streets of New York with an eclectic, enchanting film programme running throughout December.

Curated to mark the arrival of Meredith Wilson’s mesmerising stage adapatation of Miracle on 34th Street, A New York Christmas takes over Manchester’s favourite independent cinema with an unmissable programme of classic festive movies. In celebration of The Big Apple’s inimitable yuletide magic, family favourites Home Alone 2 and Elf promise the quintessential Christmas cinema experience for families with children of all ages, while Todd Haynes’ stirring, suspenseful tale of forbidden love Carol breathes new life into Carol Patricia Highsmith’s best-selling novel, The Price of Salt.

Elsewhere, Frank Capra’s wondrously uplifting 1946 masterpiece It’s A Wonderful Life brings the joyous community spirit of Bedford Falls to town, while 2024’s Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point adds a tenderly playful twist to the holiday movie format, as four generations of the Balsano family convene for one last Christmas Eve in their home.

Other films on HOME’s festive programme showcase the wondrous diversity of New York’s local communities at Christmastime. Stanley Kubrick’s darkly opulent high-society mystery drama Eyes Wide Shut explores the strange, erotically sinister side of the city’s elite classes, while the delightful romance classic Moonstruck stars Cher and Nicolas Cage as two star-crossed Brooklynites who fall hopelessly in love, setting them on a whirlwind journey from their working class brownstones to elegant glamour of The Met.
