After finishing its Autumn season with a sell-out run of A Christmas Carol, Manchester School of Theatre at Manchester Metropolitan University has announced its BA Acting Spring Season at Grosvenor East theatre.

The new season kicks off on Thu 6 Mar with the witty, whimsical and wild Shakespeare classic As You Like It, directed by Emily Raymond.

Escaping from her evil uncle, Rosalind hides herself in the wilderness of Arden, where she happens to fall in love. The only problem? She’s disguised herself as a boy… This is William Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy about finding love in a forest.

Next up is Caryl Churchill’ss mind-bending contemporary drama Love and Information which will run from Wed 2 Apr – Sat 5 Apr. With over 50 scenes and 100 characters, this production, directed by Nickie Miles-Wildin, is funny, moving and unsettling; a kaleidoscopic vision of the modern world from one of Britain’s most important living playwrights.

The season concludes with Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, an eviscerating exploration of female rage. Just married. Bored already. Hedda longs to be free… This is the story of a woman so unhappy, she’ll set the world on fire just to watch it burn.

Ibsen’s masterpiece is re-imagined for the 21st Century in this new version by Patrick Marber (Closer, After Miss Julie). This new version by Marber, directed by Seán Aydon, is horrifying and gripping in equal measure and will run from Thu 1 May – Sat 3 May.

Speaking about the show, Aydon says: “Ibsen’s play is an eviscerating exploration of female rage. His visionary presentation of a truly unsympathetic female character was way ahead of his time and in this new version, it feels more relevant than ever. Watching Hedda is like watching a car crash in slow motion.”
