On Fri 21 and Sat 22 Mar, the exhilarating new production Cycles comes to Aviva Studios, home of Factory International, presented by the UK’s most celebrated hip-hop theatre company, Boy Blue.

Led and founded by composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante MBE and choreographer Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy MBE, Boy Blue is an award-winning hip-hop dance company from East London which draws on popping, breaking, krump and animation to create captivatingly unique choreographical arrangements set to Asante’s pulsating electronic scores.

Across an illustrious career spanning over twenty years, in which they bagged an Olivier Award for their 2007 production Pied Piper: A Hip-Hop Dance Revolution and collaborated with Danny Boyle for the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony, the pair have brought unprecedented nationwide attention to the hip-hop dance movement with innovative infusions of jungle, grime and garage, adding a British twist to the traditionally American form while drawing on lived experiences, social tensions and inspirational history alike.

Their latest work, Cycles, takes over Aviva Studios for two days following an acclaimed global premiere at London’s Barbican last year. The show explores the symbiotic connection between fluid physical movement and the rhythm, groove and bounce of the music, as nine staggeringly gifted dancers fill the stage in a vortex of ‘unending motion’.

‘A triumphant celebration of the shared pleasures of dance’ – The Independent
