US quintet Andrew Jackson Jihad are set to pick up where they left off at the scene of their last Manchester show last year. Known for their adept and frank lyrical commentaries weaved through wonky alt-rock melodies, they’ve picked up fans who also appreciate compositions by the likes of Jeffrey Lewis and Daniel Johnston – somewhere between college rock, outsider art and old-fashioned, head nodding, fist pumping good gigging times. This year, they return to the Deaf Institute, marking the midpoint of a 15-date UK tour for the Phoenix, Arizona multi-instrumentalists, who count the kazoo, banjitar, cello, mandolin and horns among their audio arsenal.
