Manchester Jazz Festival returns to Manchester this May, and Band on the Wall will once again be getting in on the action.

The venue will be delivering a string of four very special shows as part of the festival, from bonafide icons of the genre to local rising stars, Band on the Wall have pulled out all the stops for this year’s festivities.

On Thu 25 May, local favourite Mica Miller is back at Band on the Wall. Widely regarded as one of the most exciting acts in UK soul and jazz right now, last year saw Mica pick up Jazz FM’s prestigious Soul Act of the Year Award, a nomination for Breakthrough Act of the Year, and a plethora of five-star album and live reviews. Given Mica filled the Albert Hall back in September, and sold out London’s iconic Jazz Cafe, we expect tickets will be flying out once again for this.

Next up, on Fri 26 May, a special edition of Me Gusta Presents is on the cards, as Habibi Funk join for a musical journey that will guide the audience through a multitude of genres that merge influences and experiences of Arab culture, with other globetrotting sounds.

New Orleans’ Grammy-nominated Hot 8 Brass Band return to Manchester on Sat 27 May, as Band on the Wall join forces with the Albert Hall in a crossover we can firmly get behind. The recent passing of Bennie Pete, the beloved co-founder and sousaphone player for the outfit, will be honoured in true New Orleans fashion with ‘The Bossman Tour 2023’, paying tribute to his “galvanizing force” as a “leader, teacher and mentor”.

Finally, on Sun 28 May, the legendary Cuban sonero Eliades Ochoa, star of the iconic Buena Vista Social Club, draws things to a sure-to-be-spectacular close. Dubbed by many as the Cuban Johnny Cash, Ochoa boasts various gold and platinum albums, three Grammy nominations and a collaboration list that bosts the likes of Bod Dylan, Manu Dibango and Bløf.
