The fashion for the temporary bar / restaurant goes from strength to strength this December. Here’s our of pick of the crop.

1. Aumbry for £10 at the Longfield Suite

Manchester’s best restaurant hosts a seasonal pop-up this Sunday (2 Dec). Located in what’s known to local folk as the Jewel Of Prestwich, the Longfield Suite, this historic ballroom boasts a fully sprung dancefloor, some seriously Christmassy dressing and can seat up to 400. From noon this Sunday, food fans can enjoy on two courses for £10, 3 courses £15 of proper Christmas fare. Start with an Aumbry classic, Bury black pudding Scotch egg (pictured) or Celeriac Soup, toasted chestnuts & truffle oil, followed by traditional turkey or veg roast and finish up with sherry trifle, Christmas pudding and brandy sauce. Bookings only on 0161 798 5841. If you are too late, you’ll find an equally enticing seasonal selection at Prestwich’s fine dining Aumbry, or at The Beagle dining pub in Chorlton, where Aumbry’s Lawrence Tottingham is chef-at-large. (The Longfield Suite, Prestwich, M25 1AY).

2. The Pop Inn

Launched last night, the Pop Inn, located just next door to the Bakerie wine tasting store in the labyrinthine Hive building offers something of a contrast with its modern surroundings by harking back to Victorian times. Expect holly, a proper open fire, polished cherry leather and the soft glow of candle light, not to mention lashings of seasonal drink and their famous breads, cheeses and charcuterie platters. (The Hive, 47 Lever Street, M1 1FN. Tel: 0161 236 9014 bakerie.co.uk)

3. Miracle on High Street

One of Manchester’s biggest success stories in 2012 is Almost Famous burger bar; a DIY style joint crafted from plywood, serving what everyone seems to agree are the juiciest burgers in town. Open Weds-Sun, expect to queue and expect to  leave dripping in house ‘Suicide’ sauce suitably inebriated on “Bitch Juice” (the mysterious and powerful house cocktail). Pop-up sister bar, Miracle on High Street, offers a similar vibe with extra bourbon and tinsel. Tuck into a full Christmas dinner with all the trimming in a soft fluffy roll (£6), Baileys Boozy Hot Choc (£5) and mental festive cocktails such as a chocolate stout, bourbon and vanilla ice cream special. (Thro Socio Rehab, up staircase at rear, 100-102 High Street, M4 1HP. www.miracleonhighstreet.co.uk)
