Mali’s Bassekou Kouyate and his band Ngoni ba bring their electrifying live performance back to the UK this month, including a handful of Northern shows in Clitheroe, Stockton on Tees, Barton Upon Humber and Manchester. Having released his third album, Jama Ko, last year to much acclaim, Bassekou spent much of last summer impressing crowds at Glastonbury and Latitude, and has played a regular part in Damon Albarn’s Africa Express project. Described by Metro as ‘a triumphant union of the spiritual and the sensual’, Jama Ko mixes expressive melodies with stunning harmonies to create a powerful selection of songs encapsulating Malian culture. Performing in the intimate setting of Band the Wall, experience its full power in person, as Bassekou and his band take to the stage with their exciting blend of jazz, blues and rock.
