It’s a sought after quality for an artist’s studio recordings and live performances to both hold equally significant, yet contrasting effects on the listener. Ry X, the alias of Ry Cuming that you might know from his band the Acid and who has now settled in LA via Australia, outputs a Bon Iver-esque quality with his desolate, falsetto tones wrapped in expansive songs. When listening with headphones, his voice delivers an out of body experience that transports the user to spiritual places; and live it so powerfully magnetises the audiences to his spine-tingling, intimate voice that he effortlessly has them locked in. This seated show at the historic Dancehouse Theatre is the perfect accompaniment to Ry X’s beautiful style.
