This Christmas, Chester Zoo is transformed into an illuminated winter wonderland – a Magical Sorting Office – with the return of its festive event, The Lanterns at Chester Zoo. Part theatre performance, part adventure playground, The Lanterns features live music, dance and theatre: as the sun sets over Chester the zoo comes alive, with life-sized animal lanterns guiding the audience down a magical route through the fairy-tale origin story of the Magical Sorting Office, with the chance to even post a letter to Father Christmas. Alongside such lantern-lit theatrics as the Andean Bear Airship and an Insect Orchestra, a series of animated shorts narrated by Lauren Laverne will be released alongside the event on organisers Wild Rumpus’ social media accounts, to spread the festive magic for those that can’t make it and make the event an even more engrossing experience for those who can. Like the sound of this? There’s another evening spectacular for all the family closer to home too in the shape of Christmas At Dunham. Read our preview here.
