There’s a host of openings to hear about in Manchester this week including a big name arriving in the city. The Stock Exchange Hotel, the new venture from football player’s Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, will welcome Tom Kerridge later in the year, whilst old favourite The Lawn Club returns for a summer jaunt. There are supper clubs at Manchester Art Gallery, two different rum festivals this month, and a couple of places that you can try now, all in our round-up below…
Tom Kerridge comes to Manchester
Manchester’s long anticipated Stock Exchange Hotel has announced one of its first residents. Michelin-starred celeb chef Tom Kerridge is set to oversee the launch of the first restaurant in Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville’s much trailed venture after taking over from Rabbit In The Moon’s Michael O’Hare who left last year. The Lawn Club Returns
Nearly three years after shutting up to make way for The Ivy and Allied London’s ‘urban oasis’ The Lawn Club is set to return to Spinningfields for the Summer. The outdoor bar will bring back its much loved astroturf and deckchairs, and in order to get off on a good footing, the returning bar is offering free drinks on its opening night. Anyone who signs up to their mailing list will get a free tipple when the bar flings its doors open this Friday 7 June at 4pm.

Wholesome Junkies Now Open
A couple of weeks back, the Arndale Food Market welcomed another stand to its ever growing high quality street food vendors. Joining other newcomers such as Holy Crab as well as established favourites such as Viet Shack, Wholesome Junkies offer plant based junk food (hence the name). Having previously appeared on BBC’s Million Pound Menu, the vegan fast food joint is already gaining fans in the Arndale’s food market regulars.

Over Under Now Open
Another newbie that we reported on a few months back, Over Under has now opened its doors on Deansgate. The London coffee shop that styles itself as two distinct venues depending on the time of day, is coffee and brunch in the day and cocktails and good vibes in the evening. The daytime brunch menu features delights such as truffle egg and cress roll, or homemade cakes, as well as a flat white. The evening part of the venue is still to come, but expect mood lighting and glamorous cocktails going by their London sibling.

Manchester Art Gallery and MFDF Supper Clubs
A collaboration between Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Food & Drink Festival has seen four Manchester based chefs booked in for four special supper clubs in the gallery, and tickets for the final three are now on sale. The first event, which took place in April, sold out well in advance and the upcoming ones are certain to go the same way. The first of the three sees Mary Ellen McTague of Chorlton’s highly rated The Creameries, bring a Midsummer Nordic Feast to the venue on June 28th. Inspired by Manchester Art Gallery’s Nordic Craft and Design exhibition, diners will be greeted with an arrival drink, before getting a tour of the exhibition and a four course Scandinavian banquet. Following dinners will see El Gato’s Simon Shaw hosting a contemporary Spanish get together, and Aiden Byrne of Restaurant MCR with the Art of Dining. Tickets for all are available now.

Harvey Nichols Rum Festival
For one evening only, Harvey Nichols’ Second Floor Brasserie will be taking on a Caribbean flavour as it hosts a special rum festival. Between 6pm and 9pm on 27 June, rum aficionados can learn about new flavours and styles that are hot right now whilst getting to taste some lesser heralded rums and hearing from some of the rum industry’s leading experts and tastemakers. The £10 ticket price is refundable against drinks bought on the night. With the Official Rum Festival being hosted this weekend at Brickworks under Barton Arcade, June appears to be the month to get your fill of the Caribbean spirit.
