A Song Smelling of Oysters: immersive meal inspired by Anthony Burgess at the Whitworth
Anthony Burgess once said, “Every grain of experience is food for the greedy growing soul of the artist.” Absolutely. In the Venn diagram sliver to combine a cool experience and food, The Whitworth is joining forces with Laura Mansfield from Feast journal and The Modern Caterer to host an evening of food and performance, to celebrate the novelist’s work. The three-course menu and aperitif have ingeniously been created using recipes found within Burgess’s fiction, and the courses will include interventions in response to his work. Tickets for this creative supper club are on sale now, with the event signalling the beginning of an exhibition of artists’ writings in response to Burgess’s repeated use of a Lancashire Hot Pot recipe in eight pieces of his work. Read our preview.
Thu 14 Sep, The Whitworth Café, Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6ER, 7-9pm, £35 (£55 with wine pairing), www.eventbrite.co.uk
