Fundraiser Gig at Fuel Café Bar
DIY venue and co-operative art space Partisan opened earlier this year, heralding its arrival with a string of fundraising gigs. Well months on, and renovations are still ongoing – in particular, the venue still lacks disabled access – which is why they’re taking over that other favoured indie venue Fuel Café Bar for the evening. Local musicians, including solo guitarist Jo Rose and garage rockers Kingdoom, will be descending upon the Withington bar, performing sets with a twist: They’ll all be performing songs from the back-catalogue of American multi-instrumentalist singer Joanna Newsom. It’s free to get in, but it’s a fundraiser so please give generously.
Fri 3 Nov, Fuel Cafe Bar, 448 Wilmslow Road, Manchester, M20 3BW. 7pm – 10pm, www.facebook.com

Where Do You Call Home at Manchester Museum (pictured)
Twenty years after Britain ceded control of Hong Kong to the Chinese government, this event at Manchester Museum looks at the current state of British-Chinese identity. This afternoon-long event, organised as part of the Economics and Social Research Council’s Festival of Social Science, takes a look at the modern British-Chinese experience, through recent research projects, a documentary screening and a discussion of the memoir of Anna Lo: Former Northern Irish Alliance Party politician, and the first Chinese-born MP.

Jurassic Park at Stovepipe
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 24 years – and four disappointing sequels – since Steven Spielberg’s dinotastic magnum opus hit screens. This Sunday you can recapture the magic at Northern Quarter bar and restaurant Stovepipe where they’ll be screening the film as part of their free Sunday Cinema Club. As well as the screening there’s also free popcorn and the chance to win a bottle of prosecco – if you fancy a monster hangover on Monday morning.
