On the first Wednesday every month, Manchester Art Gallery opens from 5-9pm – and December’s big do is a festive market, where 30 independent makers from the region will be selling their handcrafted wares. Expect mineral jewellery, pewter homewares, hand-printed Christmas cards, knitted wreaths, and more. The main Gallery shop is offering a gift-wrapping service, as well as its usual ranges of art and design gifts, books, and stationery. The café will be open throughout the evening with light meals, snacks, and some classic winter warmers. You can explore some of life’s big questions at the Philosophy Café, or take a workshop on how to make Nordic Christmas stars. There will also be a talk by poets Adelle Stripe and Benjamin Myers, about ‘Return to Manchester’, the career-spanning solo exhibition from photographer Martin Parr, which is on now at the Gallery.
