Much copied yet never bettered, photographer Martin Parr returns to Manchester with a newly commissioned body of work depicting the city and its people in 2018, commissioned by Manchester Art Gallery. Parr has made a number of recent visits to Manchester to create the new work, entitled Return to Manchester; meeting people shopping, in hairdressers, in Mosques, in cafes, at markets, in factories, at parties, playing sport and in the village. He has captured scientists, football players and the media at work and the results are both diverse and inclusive. His previous show at Manchester Art Gallery ‘Strange and Familiar’ was one of our favourites from last year (read our past preview here).
