Making The News at Portico Library

Back at Manchester Art Gallery on Saturday, you can take part in this free tour that focuses on artists’ depictions of Manchester and shows how artists from all over the world have been inspired by this city. Lecturer and tour guide Julia Marwood sheds new light on works by Lowry, Valette and contemporary sculptor Halima Cassell.

Manchester Americana Festival at Fuel Café Bar
Withington’s Fuel Café Bar hosts the 8th annual Manchester Americana Festival this Saturday evening, offering six whole hours of country, blues, folk and gospel. A packed bill of Memphis-inflected musicians from around the North West will be playing including Liverpudlian country outfit the Good Intentions and former People’s History Museum songwriter-in-residence Quiet Loner. In addition to live acts, the organisers will be capping off the night with a DJ set featuring classics from both sides of the Atlantic. This gig is free to attend, but donations are requested to help cover the artists’ expenses.
