Book Art Workshop at Stretford Library
Creating works of art from old books has grown in popularity over the last few years, and if you’ve got a little literature lover in your life, this might just be the afternoon activity for them. This child-oriented workshop at Stretford Library, led by Warrington-based artist Kate Bufton, will take kids through the folding, cutting and contorting required to turn your charity shop fodder into spiralling, blossoming works of deep complexity: And all themed around novelist Jane Austen. Booking ahead for this is essential to guarantee a spot

Super Inframan Screening at Hold Fast (pictured)
This Tuesday, you can catch a rare public screening of the obscure Asian cinema classic Super Inframan – also known as Inframan, The Super Inframan and Chinese Superman. Presented by the bad film enthusiasts at Certificate X, this film is Hong Kong’s interpretation of the Japanese Tokusatsu science-fiction genre, and the result is a disorienting mess of colour, pyrotechnics and jarring sound. It’s also a wild, wonderful picture that shares some DNA with Superman, Power Rangers and Godzilla, whilst also presenting a unique vision. If you like martial arts, rubber suits and robots stamping on cardboard buildings, you’ll love Super Inframan.

Acid Haystacks First Anniversary Party at The Railway
Local weird folk favourite Acid Haystacks has been running free shows at The Railway in West Didsbury for a whole year now, and to celebrate he’s putting on a special show. Haystacks is joined by ukelele-wielding Montreal musician Karen Chung and Manchester-based psychedelic singer-songwriter Jess Megson, who’s fresh off the back of an overseas tour. With touring commitments, you might not get an opportunity to see a line-up like this for a while, so get yourself down to the Railway this Thursday.
