Legacies of Slavery Preview at Portico Library
It’s just over 200 years since Parliament abolished the slave trade, and also just over 200 years since the Portico Library opened its doors. Bittersweet: Legacies of Slavery & Abolition in Manchester is a new new exhibition that looks at the legacy of the slave trade all across the globe, and particularly its impact upon Manchester: A city built on the cotton textile industry that enormously benefitted from slavery, but also a radical city always at the the forefront of liberation struggles. For this preview event, curator Dr. Natalie Zacek invites the project’s researchers and artistic contributors to provide more insight into the work they’ve been doing.
Thu 14 Sep, Portico Library, 57 Mosley Street, Manchester, M2 3HY. 6pm – 8pm, www.facebook.com
