Peterloo Living History at People’s History Museum
This Wednesday marks the 198th anniversary of the Peterloo Massacre, one of the most notorious chapters in the history of British class struggle, when 6000 mill workers descended upon St. Peter’s Square to demand parliamentary reform and were met with a brutal cavalry charge. You can relive the events of that day from the safety of the People’s History Museum, where a theatre company will bring the story to life with an immersive performance. This is a family-friendly event

Rochdale to St. Peter’s Ramble
Another Peterloo-themed event is happening this Friday. Meeting at St. Peter’s at 3pm, ramblers will then take the tram to Rochdale, and from there walk back to town along the Rochdale canal: The very same route taken by the protesting mill workers all them years ago. It’s a fairly substantial walk: Clocking in at over ten miles, it’s a trek that’s likely to take you into the evening. Recommended for experienced walker’s only.
