Dan Shake at Eastern Bloc Records
The Stevenson Square record shop is hosting Dan Shake for the evening, ahead of his longer set supporting Alexander Nut at basement-club Versions. The London-based DJ spins afrobeat, soul and funk, and his remixes have captured audiences all over Europe – even landing him representation with vaunted Detroit label Mahogani Music. You can catch him for free in the cosy surroundings this vinyl lover’s paradise.

Envirolution at Platt Fields
Platt Fields plays host to Envirolution 2017 this Saturday: A one-day festival celebrating and promoting sustainability. It’s organised by a local co-operative who’ve been running the festival, and associated fundraisers, since 2011. Throughout the day, there’ll be music, performance and stalls promoting environmental concerns. There’s also speaking guests ranging from community gardening project Sow the City to Ethical Consumer Magazine. If you want to keep the ecoparty going into the evening, there’s also an afterparty at The Old Abbey Tap House near the Universities to get stuck into.

King Street Festival

Hulme House Party (pictured)
This interesting and exclusive event is part of the Manchester International Festival. Zimbabwe-born and Manchester-bred MC Chunky hosts this intimate free house party in Hulme, turning an unassuming house into a gig-space for the cutting edge of local MC culture, with guest appearances from the likes of Sangy, Lychee, Sleepy and Dyno. He’s even invited guests over from Leeuwarden in The Netherlands to bring an international feel to the party. If you want to attend, you’ll have to register in advance via Eventbrite to receive the address of the shindig.
