It’s June! JUNE. As in, summer’s sort of properly on its way now. So if you’re not at Parklife soaking up the rays (fingers crossed, eh?), here are some nice things to help you celebrate the forthcoming sunny good times – and these will cost you exactly £54.50 less than the shindig down at Heaton Park.

Garden Party at The Whitworth
To mark their nomination for Museum of the Year, The Whitworth fires up the good times with a gallery-wide garden party. You’ll find an outdoor art club, planting activities, guided tours exploring what’s behind that well-deserved nom, live funk, jazz and swing, edible art, and recreating The Whitworth’s most cherished artwork – Peter Blake’s I Love You textile. Then as the sun goes down, the party gets started by Disco Mums, a DJ collective of seasoned clubbers, who will unleash the records they’ve been collecting for almost two decades for a one-off night of dancing and D-I-S-C-O. All in all, a bonafide unbeatable freebie.
Sat 6 Jun, The Whitworth, Oxford Road, M15 6ER, 8 – 12pm, FREE (booking essential for Disco Garden Party), www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk

After Hours in the Galleries at The Lowry
A new fixture for 2015, the first Saturday of the month at The Lowry now sees the union of music, drinks, talks and art. For June’s bash, the galleries welcome live music from the Northern String Quartet, who’ll be soundtracking the permanent exhibit L.S. Lowry: The Art and the Artist, whilst over at the pop-up bar there’s 20% off. Nifty.
Sat 6 Jun, The Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays, M50 3AZ, 5 – 7.30pm, FREE, www.thelowry.com

Passive Aggressive Tendencies at The Castle
A monthly quiz from The Antisocial Networking Club, this event combines stand-up tragedy, illegal poetry and true life fiction strips back the ‘mouldy orange peel of life to suck on its tragicomic core’. This week it’s Passive Agressive Tendencies, with everything mediated by self-proclaimed pretentious charlatan and hair tragedy, host Dale Lately.
Sun 7 Jun, The Castle, 66 Oldham Street, M4 1LE, 6pm, FREE, www.facebook.com
