FLIM Nite Does The Thing at 3MT
Spoken word night FLIM returns to Three Minute Theatre – situated in Affleck’s Palace Arcade – for another instalment. The conceit of the night is that live performers from the worlds of poetry, storytelling and stand-up comedy come together to retell a particular film: In this case, John Carpenter’s rubbery 1982 horror masterpiece The Thing. This month they’re presenting a particularly stellar line-up of performers, which includes Elf Lyons – whose debut hour Swans was nominated for best comedy show at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe – and absurdist stand-up Sean Morley, perhaps best-known for making people stand for the national anthem. This show is technically free to attend, but a donation of £3 is suggested.
Mon 2 Oct, Three Minute Theatre, Afflecks Arcade, 35-39, Oldham Street, Manchester, M1 1JG. 7.30pm – 10.30pm, www.facebook.com

Public Sculpture Talk at Manchester Art Gallery
Another sculpture talk is taking place on Thursday at Manchester Art Gallery. Curator Vicki Young from cultural partnership agency FutureCity will be discussing her work with public sculptures. Instead of focussing on how such works are dreamt up, or the artistic motivations behind them, this talk will hone in on the practical side of how these works are commissioned, developed and installed, using recent and upcoming Manchester sculptures as a launchpad for discussion.
Thu 5 Oct, Manchester Art Gallery, Mosley Street, Manchester, M2 3JL. Tel: 0161 235 8888, 6pm – 7pm, www.eventbrite.co.uk
