From video game nostalgia to the captivating science of sound, the Science and Industry Museum presents an unmissable variety of entertaining activities and thrilling exhibitions this spring.

From Sat 1 to Sun 16 April, enjoy a packed programme of ‘super-size gaming, animated adventure and digital discovery’ inspired by the interactive gaming experience, Power UP. Alongside a Pac-Man floor maze, visitors can enjoy their favourite games as part of the Actual-Reality Arcade, which brings to life classic titles like Invaders and Breakout.

Billed as the ultimate hands-on gaming experience, Power UP features over a hundred different consoles running the best titles from across five decades of world-changing entertainment. Parents and kids can face off against each other on every platform from Atari to the PS5 and latest-generation virtual reality sets, duelling on nostalgic classics including Super Mario and Sonic as well as newer releases like FIFA and Guitar Hero.

Leading the gaming geek-out, the museum’s team of expert Explainers share scientific secrets behind the latest technological advances in graphics and gameplay, while industry professionals host creative sessions.

Running until Sun 21 May before beginning an international tour, world-first exhibition Turn It Up: The power of music explores the fascinating science behind music’s unique hold over us through a series of engaging, illuminating activities and installations, including specially commissioned interactive art, intriguing objects and personal stories. Visitors of all ages are also invited to make music together and play with beats, melodies and harmonies in a newly commissioned musical playground, before throwing some shapes in the ‘Boogie to the Beat’ digital mirror.

Families with children aged four and under can also enjoy activities specifically designed to spark creativity in young minds, while Free Construction Packs will be on offer for youngsters to take round the museum.

General admission tickets are free, while tickets to Turn It Up and Power Up are £8 for adults and £6 for children.
