When it is raining, it can seem like the people running Screenfields are the most hopeless romantics in the world: who could ever successfully run an open air cinema club in the middle of rainy Manchester? But when it’s sunny, it feels like they’re the most ingenious people in the entire city – and when they’re showing a cult classic like Anchorman, even more so. What is screened each Thursday on the lawns is chosen by an online vote, and having beaten off Clueless (which – as much as we love it – never really had a chance), the oft-referenced comedy will be showing from 7pm. If you’ve not seen it before, expect people to be dropping quotes at you left, right and centre – and if you have seen it before, expect to be dropping quotes left, right and centre. A rare chance to see Ron Burgundy, Veronica Corningstone, Baxter and all the crew out in the open and on the big screen – and all for absolutely nothing, too (as long as you sit on the right lawn).
