Spencer Jones is one of the many draws of A Lovely Day at Cultplex, Harriet Dyer is on an excellent bill at Chorlton Comedy Club and hotly tipped Sam Serrano tests out their new show at The Castle Hotel.

Sam Serrano at The Castle Hotel | Thu 1 Jun | 8pm | £3

The hotly-tipped Sam Serrano will be in Manchester with a work in progress of their new material before heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe in August. One of the most exciting acts to come out of the North in recent times, Serrano pulls on their own difficult upbringing to touch on important subjects like gender, abuse and mental health whilst expertly slicing through any tension amassed with razor-sharp punchlines.

Harriet Dyer at Chorlton Comedy Club | Fri 2 Jun | 8.30pm | £12-15

After a decade or so of being the most fascinating and naturally hilarious comedians in the country, Harriet Dyer has been popping up on bits of telly recently. It’s great to see someone as talented as Dyer finally getting the recognition she so richly deserves, so whenever you get the chance to see her do live stand-up you should grab that opportunity with both hands. Here she’ll be on a fine bill with Mick Ferry and Tony Burgess. A terrific night out.

Spencer Jones at Cultplex | Sat 3 Jun | 5pm | £8

As part of A Lovely Time’s debut mini comedy festival “A Lovely Day” (more on that here) Spencer Jones will be bringing his new hour of madness to Cultplex for this work-in-progress. In a day packed with previews including Vittorio Angelone and Rachel Fairburn, Spencer is our pick of the day because there’s simply no one like him in the comedy world and even his idea is half formed it’ll be one of the most original things you’ve ever seen. A must-see at every opportunity.
