As the weather gets warmer, it’s impossible not to think about what we’d be getting up to in normal times. There are still loads of cool free things to do at home this week from great local people and venues – and if you’ve got some outside space, why not sit out and tune in while enjoying the sunshine?
The People’s History Museum have moved one of their most popular regular sessions online. Singer-songwriter Matt Hill will be live on Facebook sharing tunes from times of change with babies and toddlers (and their parents). The LGBT+ Centre are bringing a virtual open mic mix up of loads of LGBT+ performers from right here in Manchester, the rest of UK and across the world. Slots are still available if you’d like to participate, or you can just tune in and enjoy a variety of performances right from your own home.
This special online event will feature live music, stories and poetry from Palestine and Ireland, sharing their histories of resistance, popular struggle and cultural revolution. The event is ticketed, based on donations only – all proceeds will be split between anti-racist, anti-imperialist campaigns in Glasgow and Manchester.
Partisan, a collective and cooperative space at Cheetham Hill, are hosting one of their classic all-day parties – this time online. With an exciting line-up of some of the coolest local DJ talent (including Kickin Pigeon and Mix-Stress), grab a drink, tune in and kick off summer with a backyard boogie. Partisan encourage donations to support them during this uncertain time, but the event is free to tune in to.
Manchester-based yoga teacher Alexis Fletcher is currently offering a selection of Zoom-led yoga classes specifically for pregnant people. The first class is free and you can find out more from Alexis on Instagram – it’s a great way to get involved with something new and meet some new people.

Royal Northern College of Music are hosting a special livestreamed masterclass from renowned baritone and composer Roderick Williams. Roderick will be joined via Zoom by three baritones from the Royal Northern College of Music and will be talking about his experiences and answering questions.
