Sara Barron headlines XS Malarkey in their new home of Canvas, Comedy For Hot People returns with Fern Brady and a new improv night launches at Fierce Bar.

Sara Barron at XS Malarkey | Tue 17 Jan | 7.30pm | £3/6

Sara Barron brings her brand new show to XS Malarkey in preview form this week. Star of Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie to You, and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order, Sara Barron returns to XS to throw some new ideas at the wall. ‘New ideas’ may include The Joy of Eavesdropping and A Deep-Seeded Fear of the Countryside, but no promises are made by the New York comic. It should be a sweaty, entertaining mess regardless and if nothing else it’s worth seeing the first XS Malarkey in their new home of Canvas. A momentous occasion indeed.

Canvas, Unit 5 Building, 4 Circle Square, Oxford Rd, Manchester M60 7HB, Tel: 0161 509 3190
Absolute Onions at Fierce Bar | Wed 18 Jan | 7.30pm | £5

Whether or not you enjoy improvisational comedy will dictate how much of a comedy ‘pick’ this one is. For some, seeing the quick thinking of a skilled improv comic is the height of the art of comedy, whereas others (namely stand-ups and comedy nerds) think it’s one rung above lazy sarcasm. Done right of course it’s much more the former and a good improv night can be one of the most unique experiences you’ll find, so we’re putting our good word and hopes on the back of this new night at the ever dependable Fierce Bar as Absolute Onions kicks off this Wednesday. Prove us right gang, and more importantly, prove those nerds wrong!

Fern Brady at Comedy For Hot People | Thu 19 Jan | 7pm | From £3.83

Comedy For Hot People is back with its beautiful audience members and they’ve bagged Taskmaster star Fern Brady to kick off the year with some considerable handsomeness. Brady used to tread the boards here in Manchester when she was starting out and has gone from strength to strength since those early days getting confused looks at The Frog. Now she packs out theatres with her sardonic and wonderful comedic slants, and heads to The Fitzgerald to no doubt do the same so we suggest you book in advance.

The Fitzgerald, 11 Stevenson Square, Manchester M1 1DB
