Despite being the shortest month, February was cold enough to feel like it lasted much longer. Thankfully March is here and, as long as you’ve not added food and drink to your list of things to give up for Lent, you’re in luck with our round-up of the best food deals in Manchester this month. There are plenty of bargains for meat lovers with James Martin and Wood offering steak specials, European food lovers are blessed with 63 Degrees, Tast, and Bock bringing French, Spanish, and Belgian deals respectively – and there are some good old classic deals that we could never do without.
For those down by King Street on a weekday, you can get a decadent lunch by the way of Tast’s 3 course lunch menu for just £18 – the options change by the week, and at the weekend it’s £25 with a drink.
For the next three months, James Martin restaurant has brought back their gigantic steak sharer for two. For £25 a person steak lovers can get the steak, beef cheek ragu, dripping fries, sides, sauces and a bottle of wine. Offer is available Monday to Thursday at dinner time only.
Another steak offer for two sees Wood provide a tomahawk steak and sides and sauces for just £50. Available every Tuesday, two diners can get a meaty bone-in charred ribeye steak for just £25 each. Paired with a big red from Wood’s wine menu and it’ll be enough to see you through the middle of the week.
It’s all seeming quite meat heavy this month, with Deansgate restaurant Hawksmoor celebrating its fifth birthday with a night of special cocktail offers. Internationally recognised bartenders Joe and Daniel Schofield will be stepping behind the bar at Hawksmoor on Thursday 5 March to showcase their new vermouth and offer unique cocktails for just £5. If you’re wanting to splash a bit more cash on the birthday celebrations, a menu of Hawksmoor classics will be available all of March for £70 or £95 with wine pairings.
If you’ve been unable to fit through the door of the heaving Edinburgh Castle at weekends, you may have more luck getting a spot of lunch during the week. The new Ancoats pub is settling into the neighbourhood nicely and during the week they offer a special ‘Worker’s Lunch’ where £10 gets you a soup, sandwich and crisps. With daily a weekly specials, it’ll keep you full until it’s time to go home for the day. For those looking to dine off the main menu on a Friday or Saturday until 2.30pm, two or three courses are £30 or £35 respectively.
One of Manchester’s newest restaurants, and fairly certainly its only one in an old security cabin, Kampus’ Higher Ground have a £35 sharing menu on offer to anyone wanting to try the new place out. The menu includes smoked cod roe, pork shoulder braised in milk and a rhubarb and custard that has already been gaining rave reviews. The sharing menu is available all day.
If you like your Sunday Roast gravy more than most, Belgian beer cafe Bock is the spot for you. The Sunday Roast fondue has a twist on the usual cheese dipping of a fondue, as it’s replaced by a red wine gravy for you to dip your 8 hour cooked beef brisket or roast chicken in. Two people can share in the decadence for £30, and for an extra £20 can get a chocolate fondue to finish.
Another Northern Quarter classic deal, is Trof’s 50% off on a Monday. All food, all day, is half price – so whether you want breakfast to get your week started or a burger to finish before unexpected Monday drinks, then the Thomas Street spot has you covered.
Five is the magic number at Chorlton’s The Beagle with their lunch menu served until 4pm for just £5. Post 4pm, visitors can enjoy their cocktail happy hour with all cocktails just £5. For lunch you can get your choice of veggie or meaty wrap with fries for just £5. We’d then recommend moving on to a negroni for the same price.
