We’ve picked out a few different options that range from leisurely morning jogs to intense iron man challenges—there’s something for everyone.

Wilmslow Running Festival has been going for a full decade now, so you’ll certainly be in capable hands. With a half marathon, 10K and 2.5K fun run taking place across the event, whether you want to push yourself or dig out your most ridiculous fancy dress, you’ll be welcomed with open arms.

In terms of entry fees, the half marathon is £29, 10K is £20 and fun run is £5.

South Manchester Parkrun | Every Saturday 9am

Parkruns have been popping up in and around Manchester for some time now, and the South Manchester edition at Platt Fields Park has become a particularly popular one. Completely free, it’s perfect for anyone wanting to dust off the cobwebs with a laid-back run that’s more about community than it is about performance.

Great Manchester Run | Wed 22 May

The Great Manchester Run attracts thousands of runners every year, creating a party atmosphere complete with live music and entertainment across both a 10K and half marathon.

Televised live on the BBC, the fast and flat city centre route makes it one of the UK’s most popular race events.

10K entry is £42, while half marathon is £49.

Therme Manchester Marathon | Sun 3 Apr

The UK’s flattest major marathon and the fourth largest in Europe, the Therme Manchester Marathon’s favourable conditions make it another popular choice for anyone on the hunt for their personal best.

Whether you’re an elite athlete or want to split the 26.2 miles between a team of two or four, you’ll be welcomed all the same.

Public entries start at £68, though cheaper options are available through specific charities along with a fundraising target commitment.

Ironman Triathlon and Night Run | Fri 2 Jul / Sun 4 Jul

Looking to really put yourself through it? This is the one for you.

The triathlon gets underway on Sun 4 Jul with a 2.4-mile swim at Pennington Flash, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and finally, a full marathon ending at Bolton’s Victoria Square—it’s certainly not one for the faint-hearted.

Meanwhile, the night run will return to mark the start of this year’s IRONMAN UK on Fri 2 Jul—a moonlit 5K fun run around the town centre on closed roads.

General capacity for the triathlon is currently full, though you can register for a deferral spot that may become available later in the year.

Manchester Half Marathon | Sun 9 Oct

October’s cooler temperatures make the 13.1-mile half marathon an appealing mid-way choice between a 10K and full marathon. Starting and ending by Old Trafford, it attracts more than 15,000 runners and is famed for its electric Mancunian atmosphere.

Standard entry is £69.50 and the final wave of spots will be released on Mon 12 Apr.
