Bolton Winter Festival kicks off this weekend across the town centre, promising an action-packed occasion of festive fun that the whole family will enjoy. Open daily from Saturday 7 December – Sunday 5 January, Bolton’s very own winter wonderland has a huge programme of free and low-cost Christmassy activities and events to pick from, from an ice rink and Santa’s grotto to street performances, carol singing, children’s fair rides and much more, so you won’t be short of things to see and do.
Visit the fantastic Festive Family Zone in the former BHS unit in Crompton Place where you’ll find loads of Christmassy games and activities that the whole family will enjoy. You can also meet the main man himself over in Santa’s magical grotto!
Come and visit Santa’s new home in the Festive Family Zone in Crompton Place. Follow the magical trail through the grotto and right up to Santa’s front door. You can meet his elves along the way before finding out if you’re on the naughty or nice list and receiving a special Christmas present from Santa. Just £4 per child.
After a full day of festive fun, head inside the Teepee Café to chill-out and warm up from the cold! Grab a hot chocolate or a hot toddy, have a bite to eat and enjoy the live entertainment on the music stage.
Explore an array of festive market stalls, serving up food, drinks, games, activities and more – or head to the high-street and browse big brand names and smaller independent retailers. You’ll be sure to find some great Christmas gifts for all budgets and tastes. There are regular bus and rail links to Bolton from across Greater Manchester and there will be free parking available in local NCP car parks (Topp Way, Deane Road and The Octagon) at weekends and after 3pm weekdays from Thursday 21 November.

The fabulous covered ice rink is back for another year to brighten Victoria Square with Christmas lights and lots of ice. Whether you’re a first-timer or a pro-twirler, the ice rink is suitable for all ages and abilities. Younger children (8s and under) can enjoy Penguin Club sessions and the popular ‘happy hour and a half’ is back on select evenings, with tickets starting from just £4.50 for children. it’s a Christmas treat priced to be affordable for everyone.
