You’d be hard-pressed to find a cuisine more universally adored than pizza. Whether you’re searching for the perfectly-charred bubbles of a Neopolitan crust, the endlessly stringy cheese of an NYC-style pie or Detroit pans so deep you could cannonball into them, Manchester’s slice scene is well and truly flourishing.

Take a peruse through our guide to some of the best pizzas the city has to offer…

Double Zero

Kings of the Neopolitan slice, Chorlton’s Double Zero have got the art form down and then some. Fresh dough is made on-site daily, using only four ingredients, flour, water salt and yeast, before fermenting for a minimum of 48 hours. From there it’s into wood-fired over that’s been brought in all the way from Naples, ensuring that perfect, bubbling crust. It’s BYOB too, as if you needed anymore convincing.

Nell's

Heading across the globe, Nell’s take their inspiration from the pies of New York City, adding their own take on the staple with weird and wonderful topping combinations. Whether it’s the Upside Down Margherita or the now-iconic Do You ‘Roni Honey? (N’duja, pepperoni, and chilli honey, with tomato sauce and house mozzarella blend, finished with chilli honey and parm), it won’t take long to see why the team have quickly become a Manchester favourite.

Honest Crust

Pioneers of Manchester’s Neopolitan pizza wave, Honest Crust deserve a huge amount of credit for being one of the first to push the style in the city and their commitment to high-quality ingredients, along with a clear passion for the craft, has ensured their popularity has only grown.

Rudy's

Rudy’s rise to prominence has been seriously impressive, and with five restaurants and counting now scattered across Manchester, Didsbury, Chorlton and Sale, the team are clearly doing something very right when it comes to slinging Neopolotian slices to the masses.

Homeboys

Since opening their doors in Monton back in 2020, Homeboys have continued to push boundaries and experiment with their creations, driven by the simple premise of creating the best pizza possible. In throwing off the shackles of traditional pizza making, they’ve built a stellar reputation as they continue to innovate with different techniques and ingredients.

Crazy Pedros

Many a night has been salvaged by Pedros and their late-night slices, with the team serving their delightful creations into the early hours. This is far more than just an end-of-night bite though, as their pizzas are up there with the best Manchester has to offer, with an ever-changing, sometimes bizarre topping list inspired by cuisines from around the world.

Lucky Mama's

The Lucky Mama’s story alone is enough to entice us in. Originally launched in lockdown, serving fresh Roman-style pizza from a trailer out of their Eccles garden, Mamadou and Gaby quickly built a cult following. They’ve now traded in the trailer for a couple of wonderful brick-and-mortar spots in Chorlton and Monton, and so the heartwarming story continues…

From the hit team behind North American specialists Brewski, American Pies specialise in deep-pan deliciousness. Definitely erring on the indulgent side, these Chicago-style pies feature a trademark parmesan butter crust which tastes every bit as good as it sounds.

Ciaooo

It’s back to Naples with Ciaooo, who do some seriously spectacular things with burrata. As excellent as the pizzas are, their N’duja cheesy garlic bread is an absolute standout that you need to get your chops around ASAP. Also on the menu are a handful of fantastic focaccia sandwiches. Get stuck in.

Salvi's

There was obviously no way we’d get through this list without including the fine folks at Salvi’s. The family-run business are legends of the city in their own right, and their trattoria-style spot in the Northern Quarter is a particularly gorgeous spot to pull up a chair. Using 100% authentic Italian ingredients, quality and care is at the forefront of everything they do, something which shines through every time you visit.

Ramona

Set in a converted industrial garage, Ramona’s campfire beer garden is certainly one of the more unique dining settings you’ll get in town. Serving Detroit-style pizza by the slice and their now-famous frozen margaritas alongside, Ramona have seemingly struck the perfect balance between great scran and a packed events calendar that ranges from supremely talented bands and DJS to live radio broadcasts taking place as you chow down.

Pizza Anna

Tucked into a relatively unassuming lot in Altrincham town centre is Pizza Anna (formerly Pix Pizza but still the same team). Dough is hand-stretched and slid into the wood-fired oven, which takes up pretty much the entire space, and a couple of minutes later comes out some of the best Neopolitan pizza you’ll find anywhere in Manchester. Barring a couple of tables outside, this is a takeaway operation — but the fantastic Pi Bar is just across the way, and they’ll let you take your pizza in to enjoy alongside a lovely craft ale.

19 Shaw's Rd, Altrincham WA14 1QU
Black Spot Pizza

Set in the charming suburb of Heaton Mersey, Black Spot Pizza has been quietly responsible for some of the city’s best pizza for a couple of years now, also boasting a supremely stylish dining room and bar that has quickly become one of our favourite spaces in Manchester. You can get all the usual staples, your marinara and your Margherita, but there are also more adventurous forrays, such as the jerk chicken or spiced lamb pizzas.

464 Didsbury Rd, Heaton Mersey, Stockport SK4 3BS
Tre Ciccio

With locations in both Altrincham and Ramsbottom, Tre Ciccio’s marvellous, award-winning, Neopolitan pizza is made that bit better when the restaurant’s retractable roofs are slid open and enjoyed al fresco on the elevated terrace. Spritz is optional…but encouraged.
