The UK’s first digital fabrication laboratory, or Fab Lab, was set up in Manchester’s iconic Chips Building in 2010. Since then, they have been helping manufacturers, inventors, schools and community groups with their design, print and fabrication needs. Now they are opening their doors to the public, having been frequently asked about the processes used to make cool things, starting with a hands-on course in how to make custom vinyl t-shirts (Sat 18 Jan). These sessions will last about four hours and cover all bases for how to make your own designs and transfer them to clothing, which will leave you with the skills to start your own T-shirt design company. If that is your wish. The next two courses are in using a laser cutter to create custom greetings cards (Sat 15 Feb), and how to make and print 3D models (Sat 15 Mar). Costing only a fiver each, this may be the start you need to create your own small business. Or will just save you money will birthdays and Christmas roll around.

Sat 18 Jan, Sat 15 Feb & Sat 15 Mar, Fab Lab Manchester, Chips Building, New Islington, M4 6BU, 11am – 4pm, £5, www.eventbrite.co.uk
