An iconic Manchester pub is set to reopen following a £1m transformation.

Formally The Footage, which suddenly closed its doors in spring, the famous Grade II listed pub will officially return as The Grosvenor on Sat 2 November after a huge refurbishment.

Described as ‘a cutting-edge hybrid hospitality & social space’, the 800-capacity venue, acquired by an independent operator for just £1, will feature 30 beer taps, sports screen, pool tables, beer pong tables and a photobooth.

Built between 1913 and 1915, the Grosvenor Picture Palace was originally the largest cinema outside London and has since taken on numerous identities, from a bingo hall and snooker venue to, most recently, a legendary student pub, The Footage.

The Grosvenor will operate from 12pm-to-12am, catering to Manchester’s lively daytime and nighttime crowds. Whether it’s a bottomless brunch, after-work drinks with friends, or an exciting evening event, the space promises to offer something for everyone.

The venue’s original stage will host a packed entertainment schedule including weekly club events, interactive quiz nights, and live music from local DJs and bands.

The Grosvenor’s food offering will include a range of bar classics such as huge sharers, buckets of wings, loaded pizzas, and stacked burgers. The drinks menu will feature many local craft beers on draught and a substantial canned range, premium spirits, alcohol-free options, and cocktails.

Chris Tulloch, Managing Director of the independent local operator behind the transformation, shared his enthusiasm: “The Grosvenor is in the midst of an incredible transformation, and we’re creating something truly special for Manchester. Our vision is to blend the best aspects of a sports bar, social venue, and nightclub into one vibrant, unforgettable space where memories are made.

“As we breathe new life into this iconic building, we’re excited to continue its legacy as a cornerstone of Manchester’s entertainment, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in to eat, drink and have fun in the adult playground.”
