SNO is semi-regular on Thursday night upstairs at Soup, with everything from afrobeat to disco to hip hop to jazz, all lovingly and intricately selected on wax.

Washington DC DJ duo Beautiful Swimmers visit the basement to celebrate the first year of Mike O’Mara and Chris Feinmann’s well-respected club night, joining the dots across genres to focus on the dance.

Fri 29 Jul – Soul:ution @ Band On The Wall
A summer special from the drum and bass heads, featuring the legendary Doc Scott. DRS returns to mic duties, with residents Marcus Intalex and Bane on selection into the wee hours.

Sat 30 & Sun 31 Jul – Manchester Mela @ Platt Fields Park
Desi vibes with plenty of entertainment from midday to 9pm on both days, including live musical performances, a family funfair, henna and face painting, a fashion show, kabaddi, and all sorts of stalls to enjoy.

Mentioned elsewhere on the Wire but well worth another nod here, hip hop heads TTD have lined up one of the best representations of Manchester’s hip hop scene I’ve seen in ages, including some unmissable live talent.

Sat 30 Jul – Better Days & Groovement present Tall Black Guy (pic) @ First Chop Brewing Arm
One of Detroit’s finest beatmakers returns to First Chop for a ridiculously heavy, soulful boom bap session from one of the city’s most passionate and community-minded promoters, Better Days. Warm up duties filled by Children Of Zeus’ Konny Kon and myself.
