V Rev vegan diner opens on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter
The long-standing Northern Quarter vegan restaurant has reopened in their new digs on Edge Street. Offering a full vegan diner menu, there are also plenty of gluten free options. Amongst many combos, check out the Hell-vis Presley – beefy patty, cheez, baecon, peanut butter, banana, pickles and baeconnaise, or the Rock Lobster sarnie – lobsta salad, baecon, and herb mayo in a pretzel bun. The menu covers all vegan bases and they’re soon starting a vegan bakery on site as well, watch this space. The baby blue and yellow is a treat too.

Makan Malay Supper Club with Nasi Lemak at Proof
Literally translated to mean ‘eat’, local Malaysian street food regulars Nasi Lemak are teaming up with Chorlton bar Proof to serve a special menu. The supper club collaboration will have three sittings and a set menu will include two starters, a main and a dessert, with a range of Malay inspired cocktails on offer too. Beginning with meaty and vegan options of Rendang rolls and Chinese dumplings, there is a choice of Nasi rice and red chicken or a vegan dish, finishing up with fresh tropical fruit.

This Saturday: GRUB Food Fair at Alphabet Brewing Co.
The weekly food fair is ramping things up this weekend in the name of Christmas. Alphabet Brewing Company will be serving homemade beer and cider, including a ‘stollen’ flavoured version of their Flat White breakfast stout. In the way of food, there’s a choice of comfort food from Mac Daddies, pizza from…Purely Pizza, Indian street food from Vaso Kitchen, seafood specialists Holy Crab and vegan bakery Nicely Kitchen. There’s plenty of mulled wine and cider to be had, mince pie cocktails, plus the drink with as many letters as shots, feuerzangenbowle – rum doused gluhwein. Add to that a gift stall from local artists, the Northern Quarter Boys Choir, Christmas trees to buy on the day, the usual DJs on hand, and we’ve got ourselves a right Christmassy feast. Cards accepted at the bar, but bring cash for the food stalls.

Gin tasting evening with Manchester’s Three Rivers at the Pilcrow
Local gin makers Manchester Three Rivers are visiting The Pilcrow Pub with master distiller Dave Rigby, to give a talk about the history of gin and how they started up. There will be a tasting session as well as a gin cocktail to enjoy into the evening. Places are limited, so book via the link below.

Polish Christmas supper club: Heart & Parcel at Palate Chorlton
Levenshulme-based Polish dumpling makers Heart & Parcel are bringing their Christmas pierogies to Chorlton restaurant Palate. Focussing on traditional festive recipes, there are meaty and veggie options over five specially created courses. Starting with a welcome drink and smalec z jabłkiem i cebulą na razowym (lard with crispy pieces of pork skin, apples and onions), there is also sour cucumber soup and plenty of Polish salads to enjoy with various flavour combinations of pierogies including beef, bacon, sauerkraut and mushroom, plus a sweet blueberry one. Heart & Parcel work with women from migrant communities, teaching essential skills and providing a support network. The ticket price will go towards funding these vital projects. Palate’s bar will be open as usual to accompany the visiting menu and there are two sittings for the evening.
