Manchester Jazz Festival is a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar. Its impressive programme takes in the full range of the genre’s purveyors, from polyrhythmic portrayals of classic jazz sounds to contemporary prodigies engaging with electronic production modes. Binker & Moses
One of jazz’s rising stars, Binker & Moses are the sax-drums duo responsible for blistering aural assaults. They arrive at Manchester Jazz Festival on the back of two acclaimed LPs released since 2015, including last year’s Journey to the Mountain of Forever in the mould of Coltrane and Rollins.

Richard Spaven
Spanning the scenes of drum and bass and jazz, Spaven has honed his craft while collecting fans both among his musician peers and from radio disc jockeys to dance floors. Local support comes from saxophone funkers Skeltr, joining the musical dots with Gilles Peterson’s record bag.

Davina and the Vagabonds
With Jools Holland among her admirers, the strikingly voiced Davina has united blues, jazz and soul connoisseurs in states of awe, whether on record through three acclaimed LPs or on stage from the Vagabonds’ native Minnesota to the world’s jazz festivals.

Free Jazz ft. Kinkajous, Plume + more
A free showcase featuring four free-thinking pebbles skimming sonic ripples into the new waves of jazz expression. Ambient headliners Kinkajous are welcomed from London’s fertile scene, with RNCM alumni Plume pushing the bounds of the instrument-led electronica.

Broken Brass Ensemble
The Dutch big band channel the spirit of New Orleans through an energetic European experience, fuelling the fires of festival dance floors from Shambala to Secret Garden Party.
