A new extended tram service has been launched to help music and football fans get to and from Manchester city centre.

The extension will see trams which usually run from Altrincham to Piccadilly continue to the Etihad on some evenings and all day on Sundays.

The new service will replace the MediaCityUK to Etihad trams which only ran at peak times.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said the trams would run after 8pm from Mon – Fri, after 6.30pm on Saturdays and throughout the entire day on Sundays.

TfGM hopes the new services will aid during busy matchdays at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium and the soon-to-be-open Co-Op Live music venue.

There will also be extra trams on the Altrincham and Bury lines due to more passengers using the service.
