A new lo-fi bar and cafe named after Berlin’s fashionable Neukölln district opens this Thursday in Spinningfields in the same unit as Caffeine and Co. Pairing a stripped down vibe (wooden surfaces, simple furnishings) with top-end drinks, this could be one for the hip drinker heading to the Deansgate end of town. The new venue takes over from 6pm, when the coffee store staff head home for the day – for more about C&C, check out our story, here. Neukölln, as it will be known, joins a spate of independent ventures in the area, such as The Gaslamp and the Mumma Schnitzel pop-up cart. Following a soft launch, the bar officially opens this Thursday (14 Nov), serving cured meat and fish, homemade bread and daily stews. The venue will then open from 6pm until midnight, Thursday to Sunday. Neukölln is headed up by German beer fan Simon Horner. He told us that the stock will be ‘rotating – as in when we run out of one beer, we will bring in another, not necessarily the same one’. Bottled beers – with a strong German accent – and coffees are the kind of thing to expect. The capacity of the venue, seated, is around 80-100. Watch this space for a new competition.

Opens Thu 14 Nov, Caffeine and Co, Quay House, Byrom Street, M3 3JE, www.facebook.com, @NeukollnMCR
