Suppliers of much-needed food packages, locally sourced beer and essential household goods, Provisions & Grocery, have launched their first store in Heaton Moor. The concept is by Will France (formerly of Hawkshead brewery, Cloudwater and more) and his partner Bethan Roberts (whose past experience includes Pollen and Wolfhouse), and now open on Hawthorne Grove following a successful Crowdfunder campaign.

While the Provisions & Grocery aspect of the duo’s business has been previously based online – this new physical store is called Bernie’s and features a small grocery stocking a range of mostly organic fruit and vegetables, sandwiches, cheese, wine and a selection of bakes – including sourdoughs by Triangle Bake House and bagels from Prestwich’s State Fayre. Sweet treats, quiches and savoury bakes are also available, alongside a small variety of craft beers.

Rolling with the socially distanced times, Bernie’s also offers a home delivery hamper subscription service featuring a range of items cherrypicked by the shop’s owners and a range of veg boxes featuring organically sourced goods. These change each week and can be bought via their website  – all for around £20 each. These can then be collected from from various stores – including Grapefruit cafe in Sale. For more information and to take a peek inside Bernie’s Grocery Store, be sure to follow the team on Instagram – or pay them a visit; they’re currently open 10am – 5pm, Thursday to Saturday.
