The acclaimed documentary photographer and photojournalist Martin Parr is coming to the Art Gallery for an afternoon talk next month. He will be in conversation with the Gallery’s Senior Curator, Natasha Howes, discussing his long and varied career. The event marks the opening of his new exhibition at the venue, Return to Manchester (read our preview). This showcases select portraits of the region, drawn from his days at the then Polytechnic in the early 1970s, right through to a commission he undertook this year. Featured are black and white photos of a mental health facility, captures of shoppers in 1980s Salford, and the Guardian Cities project in the 2000s. The new commission is a portrait of Mancunians today, and aims to show the diverse nature and inclusivity of the city, and to celebrate everyday people. The event will be followed by a book signing. Booking is essential; please see the website below for details.
