TEDxManchester returns to the city on Sun 3 Mar. With this year’s event edging ever closer, organisers have unveiled the full lineup of speakers who will be taking to the stage.

Timpson CEO James Timpson comes to TEDxManchester 2024 to discuss the company’s formula for ‘shared success through empowerment’, with a keen focus on his company’s dedication to employing ex-offenders.

Joining James will be Anna Ploszaski, who seeks to unravel the dangers of storytelling in science, ‘revealing the murky mechanics of under the surface of stories, prompting us to challenge your expectations in science and beyond.’

Also featured is Otto English, who arrives to question why we fall for ‘historical nonsense’, delving into who actually benefits and explaining how to break free, along with acclaimed musical innovator, and Mancunian one-man band Youngr.

Abbie Maroño, a behavioural analyst will delve into the power of shame, Leading Google AI researcher and author Blaise Agüera y Arcas investigates what data tells us about the future of human identity and Nicky Wake shares how her entrepreneurial projects saved her from her ultimate grief.

Elsewhere on the programme, Marika Taylor, a former student of Stephen Hawking, will discuss Hawking’s teachings and legacy, high-flying international lawyer Selma Masood talks about how white collar boxing changed her life and sleep posture specialist James Leinhardt looks at how we can improve our quality of sleep.

Completing the 2024 lineup, surgeon and author James Down uses instances from his own career to analyse risk and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Charles Duhigg covers the science and art of communication.

TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events intended to bring people together to share a ‘TED-like experience’. Throughout the event video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussions and connections in a small group.

This year’s event will see a total of 12 inspiring speakers and performers take to the stage, covering a range of topics that seek to ‘surprise, inspire and leave you with ideas worth spreading’.

Last year’s lineup included the likes of Rupal Patel, a CIA agent turned CEO, Hannah Rudd, an ambassador for sharks, Alex Keshavarzi, an explorer of exotic particles and acclaimed local author, Andy Spinoza.
