Manchester won big at this year’s Great British Market Awards, with the region’s wonderfully eclectic range of independent markets scooping accolades across a variety of categories.

No stranger to winning having been named Britain’s Favourite Market in 2022 and 2019, Bury Market took home the title for Best Market Attraction this time round.

Elsewhere, Stockport Market was named Best Small Indoor Market, praised by judges for “having a positive atmosphere with an excellent and exciting variance of stalls with traders and management working as a cohesive unit.”

New Smithfield Market was crowned Best Wholesale Market, Bolton Food Festival topped the bill in the Best Large Speciality Market category while Stalybridge Street Fest received the joint award for Best Small Speciality Market.

David Preston, Chief Executive of NABMA, said: “Year on year this competition demonstrates the value and pride that towns and cities place in their local market and the innovation and diversity that applies in modern market management. Following the return from the pandemic it is clear that many local markets have a renewed trust, interest and a recognition of their importance within the day to day life of their communities.”
