This road movie, set in South America in 1952, is the highlight of this year’s Big Screen film season at Spinningfields, bringing with it the casting of Gael Garcia Bernal as Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara. He doesn’t carry the authority of Benicio Del Toro in the same role in Steven Soderbergh’s Che: Part Two, but Bernal is as fresh-faced and idealistic as the revolutionary leader would have been at the time. Based on Guevara’s journals, the film is a faithful document of a period that shaped his life’s work.
